Meet Dr. Young

dr simon youngDr. Young grew up in Toronto, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Science in 1999 from the University of Toronto, and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He graduated in 2003. He was then accepted into an integrated Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/MD/PhD program at Rice University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed his PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University in 2008, and then obtained his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2011. As part of his education, Dr. Young also completed a General Surgery internship at the same institution, along with extensive anesthesia training and 4 years of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency training. In addition to Dr. Young’s surgical and research experience, he is also an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor, and a certified Provider of Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support.

Dr. Young has completed the United States Medical Licensing examinations Steps 1,2, and 3, and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Houston Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Greater Houston Dental Society. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Aside from the clinical practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Young is also keenly interested in exploring new technologies to advance patient care.

He has published extensively on novel bone regeneration strategies and recently completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Harvard University investigating cutting-edge therapies for oral cancer. The allure of Texas remains strong, however, and Dr. Young is excited to continue working with Cypress Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons and looks forward to maintaining strong ties to a city that has given him so much, both professionally and personally over the last 10 years.
